“To compete with global transportation companies, we have to secure our presence not only in the locations where our cargo is loaded but also in the countries and regions where our products are delivered,” he stated at the annual congress of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).
Sergey Shishkarev proposes developing Russia's overseas transportation infrastructure in Southeast and East Asia, North and West Africa, and other friendly countries. He stated that Delo Group is ready to contribute to building this network and can offer viable proposals and cost-effective investment plans “with a clear return on investment”.
The Delo Group founder emphasizes that transparent implementation rules and investment protection are crucial for the success of overseas infrastructure projects. In his opinion, once relevant intergovernmental agreements with appropriate guarantees are signed, this will encourage businesses to participate in these joint projects. He also highlighted the importance of government support through the International Cooperation and Export program.
“Without government support and protection of investors’ rights in the current challenging political and economic environment, implementing our investment plans and establishing our business abroad will be extremely difficult,” said Sergey Shishkarev.
The Chairman also reminded that the shortage of merchant vessels in the country remains unresolved and suggested that the Russian Government should reinstate the practice of subsidizing loans for vessel purchases. That said, the domestic merchant fleet could operate under both the Russian flag and flags of suitable jurisdictions, Sergey Shishkarev believes.
