On September 13th, at a working meeting in Kazan, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and President of the Russian Handball Federation Sergey Shishkarev discussed the development of handball in the region.
The President of the Russian Handball Federation proposed to create a professional men’s handball club in Kazan, which could become a participant of the Premier League, and in the future qualify for the Super League.
“We all know very well that the Republic of Tatarstan is a sports region with a lot of high-level professional clubs in football, hockey, basketball and volleyball. It would be great if Kazan had a strong men’s handball team. Handball traditions in the republic are very strong, and it is very important for me, as the head of the Federation, that there is a strong club in Tatarstan. I hope that in a year, the Kazan team will be able to become a member of the Russian Super League,” said Sergey Shishkarev, President of the Russian Handball Federation.
The leadership of the region supported the initiative of the President of the Russian Handball Federation. All the necessary organizational issues will be coordinated in the near future. As for the infrastructure, Kazan has the appropriate competition and training facilities.
