After the VI World Handball Championship (U-19) President of the Handball federation of Russia Sergey Shishkarev invited Dr. Hassan Moustafa IHF President to visit the southern city Novorossiysk.
On September 22nd the Presidents of the International and Russian handball federations met with the city mayor Vladimir Sinyagovsky. The agenda included overview of the city’s infrastructure and discussion on handball development in the region.
Dr. Hassan Moustafa said that IHF hopes for Russia’s input into the world handball: “Handball is Russian traditional sport, a number one by the quantity of Olympic medals. Now your Federation has a strong President. Handball in Russia is like a diamond – you have to facet it and it’ll shine”. According to President Moustafa the correct start should be from the very beginning, in this case – nurturing young handball players right from schools. He offered to send IHF consultants to Russia to teach master-classes for kids, coaches and referees. HFR supported this idea with great pleasure and after the try-out it can be applied in all regions.
Novorossiysk mayor Vladimir Sinyagovsky offered support to the children and youth sports in Novorossiysk. They have discussed the possibility of creating a specialized Youth Sports School.
Participants visited a sports complex in Abrau where they were acquainted with the project of handball infrastructure development, creation of training center for handball players. Sports complex in Abrau is a modern, multifunctional sports facility with new fields, hotel and necessary infrastructure at the environmentally pristine region.
