Rogozin holds meeting with IHF President
On August 23d the vice Prime Minister and Chairman of HFR Board of trustees Dmitry Rogozin held a meeting with the President of the International Handball Federation Dr. Hassan Moustafa, the President of the Handball federation of Russia Sergey Shishkarev and the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt Mohammed El Badri.
Dmitry Rogozin offered to restore a team of star veterans of handball, who will help nurture young generation of handball players. He said that Ministry of defense and large corporations are ready to assist in such noble task as development of Russian handball: “Previously handball was the obligatory exercise during troopers training. Now Vladimir Shamanov, the Commander of Russian Airborne Troops, supports the renewal of this tradition”. State corporations can become a launch platform for handball popularization. “For example, there are about 260 thousand people working at ROSCOSMOS, plus it has all necessary infrastructure. Tournaments between corporations can help to bring up team spirit and support physical health of employees”, – said Rogozin. He also recommended creating of a new sports organization like Voluntary Association for Assistance to Army, Air Force and Navy but with handball as one of main sports.
President of the International Handball Federation (IHF) expressed gratitude to the Russian side for the highest organization level of the World Handball Championship (U-19) in Ekaterinburg. President Moustafa outlined that strong leadership is one of key essentials of successful sports development with assurance that presidency of Mr. Shishkarev and patronage of Mr. Rogozin will encourage handball popularization in handball society including government officials, businesspeople and sports executives.
Future IHF Congress was a separate subject of the meeting; it will take place in Sochi from 6th to 9th of November, where general development of handball, world championships, and Olympic perspectives will be discussed. Dr. Hassan Moustafa had the honor of inviting the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and vice Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin to visit this important international event.
Learning about the international experience of sports federations, their organization and operation, about handball development is an important link in the chain for federation’s activity. HFR President Sergey Shishkarev announced a visit to Spain (Barcelona) and France (Paris-Saint-Germaine) to get acquainted with local handball infrastructure.
Egypt’s Ambassador Mohammed El Badri offered to organize friendly handball games in Russia and Egypt. This would be a great start for future sports projects between our two countries.
