Head of the Business Council of the State Commission on Arctic development Sergey Shishkarev supported the choice of Arkhangelsk as a permanent field for International Arctic Forum.
The capital of Pomorye region is rightfully a strategic bridgehead for hydrocarbon deposits exploration in the Arctic shelf sea due to its advantageous geographic position, – said Shishkarev. Arkhangelsk is also a very important historical site: it is a gate to the Arctic, city of military glory, large cultural and scientific center with unique traditions.
Sergey Shishkarev is sure that organization of the Forum at one of the largest transportation hubs of the Northern Sea Route will assist many of those who potentially with explore the Arctic to meet the right people on-site – those who work in ports, ship-yards, railways, exploration and extraction of minerals, those who develop the region.
This will give a more detailed and precise understanding of current perspectives and problems of Arctic development and will help to establish practical ways for dealing with them, – said the expert. – It opens new possibilities for Arkhangelsk including the efficient balance between business activities, human presence and environmental protection. It is the very question that President of Russia Vladimir Putin named among the most prioritized during any work in high latitude.
